RARSfest License Exams

Exams

We regret to inform the RARSfest family, including all who have taken license exams at RARSfest over the years, that Joe White WA4GIR, one of our Volunteer Examiner Chairs, became a “silent key” on July 1, 2023. We expect to have a new RARS Volunteer Examiner Chair well before RARSfest 2024 and will continue giving amateur radio license exams. Please contact Acting VE Chair Richard Hall K7RLH if you have any questions about RARS license exams in the meantime.

At our RARSfest 2023 Volunteer Examiner session on April 8th, we had 45 applicants, resulting in:

  • 59 Elements Taken
  • 13 New Techs
  • 1 New General
  • 1 New Extra (Hat Trick) WOW!
  • 9 General Upgrades
  • 5 Extra Upgrades

We could not have done it without the help of the following outstanding Volunteer Examiners:

  • Joe White WA4GIR (SK) Team Leader
  • Liz White KO4CK Deputy Team Leader
  • Louis Voerman W2ROW
  • Robert Bergmueller K3COD
  • Chris Cancilla W4CEC
  • Lowell Sayles K4EUP
  • William Gwaltney Jr WA4GK
  • Kenneth Kubacki Jr NE4Y
  • Richard Spargur K3UI
  • Stanley Disbrow Jr W2CK
  • Jeffery Webster KX4ZQ
  • Mark Gibson N4MQU

Come to one of our VE sessions throughout the year to get your license or upgrade, or see you are RARSfest in 2024!

Walk-in registration and testing begin promptly at 11:30 am.

Use the right-hand entrance at the north end of the Jim Graham Building. See here for directions.

RARSfest admission is not required to take any exams, but it will be required if you want to visit the 'fest before or after the exam.

There is no exam fee, but if you pass a test that results in a new license being granted, you will have to pay a $35 fee to the US Department of the Treasury before your license is issued. Instructions will be provided to successful applicants.

You MUST bring the following in order to take exams:

  • A government-issued picture ID
  • Your FCC Registration Number (FRN). If you are already licensed, you probably have one. If you are not already licensed, you should apply for one here a few days before the exam session.
  • Your original license, if you are already licensed
  • A copy of your license (to be sent with exam results), if you are already licensed.
  • Any Certificates of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE), if you are seeking credit for an exam previously passed within the last year.
